FINCAD Announces 2015 Women in Finance Scholarship Winner

Vancouver, BC, November 12, 2015
FINCAD, a leading provider of valuation and risk analytics for multi-asset, multi-currency portfolios, today announced Yuan Yuan Gu as the recipient of the USD $10,000 FINCAD Women in Finance Scholarship for 2015. 2015 marks the first year that FINCAD has offered this award. Gu will receive the funds to apply towards her graduate degree in Financial Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley.

FINCAD has recently established this annual scholarship program with the goal of encouraging and supporting outstanding women in finance, particularly in the areas of derivatives and financial risk management. The company received applications from many deserving women from over 20 countries around the world, but ultimately Gu’s exceptional credentials positioned her as winner of the award.

Gu graduated in 2012 from Canada’s University of Waterloo with a BA in Mathematics and a BA in Business Administration with a Finance concentration. Upon graduation, she was offered a job as a Market Analytics Analyst at an energy retailer. After a couple of years in the workforce, she realized she wanted to pursue a graduate level program in Financial Engineering.

“Changing direction in life can be risky and often requires a leap of faith. I felt somewhat anxious about leaving the security of my job for further education and the unknown territory of a potential career change. Psychologically, FINCAD’s scholarship money gave me the boost of confidence I needed to pursue my goals—and financially the award has eased my financial burden so I can remain focused on my studies,” commented Gu.

Gu went on to mention, “FINCAD is offering women a great opportunity with its scholarship program. Finance, and the Fintech industry in particular, is undergoing a lot of change and innovation. This booming marketplace translates into greater career possibilities that more women should look into.”

Following graduation, Gu hopes to land a job where she can create solutions that help businesses in the capital markets meet their risk management goals.

Are you, or is someone you know, interested in applying for this scholarship? Apply today for the 2016 FINCAD Women in Finance Scholarship. This opportunity is open to women of any age and citizenship who are studying Finance in an accredited graduate-level program. Applications are due by February 26.
