FINCAD Employees to Rappel Off 25-floor Building for Charity
By Micheline Chavigny | June 17, 2019

On the 16th of September, 15 FINCAD employees will rappel off the 25-story Central City Tower in Surrey, B.C.—and it’s not just because we are a rowdy bunch with an affinity for extreme thrills. It’s actually for a much bigger and better cause.

We at FINCAD are honored to be participating in Easter Seals’ Drop Zone 2019 fundraising event. This incredible charity helps to raise much needed funds to support children and adults with diverse abilities across BC and Yukon. It is through the donations and support of people like you and me that Easter Seals is able to provide programs and services such as the Easter Seals Camps and the Easter Seals House in Vancouver.

The Easter Seals Camps at Winfield and Shawnigan Lake are week-long summer camps with accessible equipment specially designed for children and young adults with cognitive and physical disabilities. The focus of the camps is to help enable abilities by focusing on what each camper can do, rather than what they can’t do; to give these children and young adults an amazing week-long camp experience that would otherwise not be possible for them.

The Easter Seals House in Vancouver offers accommodation for the families of out of town individuals receiving medical treatment. Each year, over 30,000 bed nights are offered. Each room is equipped with a private ensuite and kitchenette – crucial for those with compromised immunity.

Our goal is to raise at least $12,750 to give to this important cause. Then on September 16th, my fellow FINCAD colleagues and I will get suited up for our adrenalin-pumping descent, living out our dreams of being superheroes for a day! It’s a great honor to be FINCAD’s team captain for this very special event.

But it’s not only our team at FINCAD that will be participating. This event will serve as the launch of the ‘Surrey Tech Collective’ – with Frozen Mountain Software. We’re forming a group of local tech companies, coming together to make a real difference in the community we work in.  We are even expecting media coverage to document our exciting adventure.

The Drop Zone campaign is already held annually with great success in Vancouver and Victoria, so we’re very excited to do the same in our own backyard.  In fact, throughout September, Easter Seals will be holding multiple Drop Zone events in Canadian cities such as Vancouver, Victoria, Toronto and others. To give you an idea of how the charity funds are used, Easter Seals posted the following on FINCAD’s dedicated Drop Zone webpage:

Donation breakdown:

  • $20 is a day of nutritious meals for a camper
  • $100 is a day at camp for a child with diverse abilities
  • $500 supports employment and skills training programs

Are you interested in helping make a difference in the life of an individual with diverse abilities? Consider contributing funds to our FINCAD team members. Together, with your support, we can enable abilities in our communities. Please donate here on or before our team deadline of September 16, 2019. Thank you for your support!
